So I just read Tavarish’s most recent post and it hit home at a perfect time for me, given that I’m considering trading out the old E30 325i.

Cars I’m mostly lusting after as a fun weekend vehicle/investment are W109/W129 SL500s...and the E36 M3 convertible.

Kinja'd!!!

Am I crazy for considering the latter? It’s rarer and more unique than the E36 M3 coupe, and just a bit more fun and lively than an SL500 - available stick, a little less lazy. Prime examples are already selling for north of $15k, so wouldn’t a cheap purchase of a decently clean one make for a good ride to hold on to for a few years?

Also, can someone please un-gray me on the front page? I don’t post on here too often and it seems like everytime I do post a reply I end up in the gray. Link to my response to Tavarish’s article below -

I think your gonna regret selling the e30. especially since you’ve had it for so long and its made you money...with that said I would think about buying it if you did shipping. but just don't tease me and keep it, its worth 1500 to you and you may never be able to get it back. e36 isn't where the e30 is at and may never reach that status

Lemme buy the E30! E36 M3 verts have been growing on me lately because they're so cheap. I'm not a big convertible guy (love the S2k) but if I found one locally man it would be tempting.

Funny, I owned an AP1 S2K....still regret selling it. It had super low miles and was a pretty rare color combination - seeing how prices are right now makes me feel stupid for selling it.

Anyway - agreed, the E36 M3 feels like such an awkward stepchild that it makes me love it. The E36 M3 coupe gets a lot of love (and hate) - and the convertible is so rare and more so with a stick - I think it’d be a really cool unusual car to hang on to for a while. Getting older I don’t care about autocross and track days anymore - I’m much more likely to go for a fun weekend drive with the Mrs, and an M3 vert would work just fine for that.

I posted ads for the E30 twice and entertained buyers, but I chickened out and was scared to let her go. I don’t want to waste Oppo folks’ time. If I actually get to a point where I feel like I’m realistically going to sell it I’ll post a heads up on here!

That’s what I keep going back and forth on too. There are other cars out there that might be good buys that I’d probably use more often at this point, but I’ve been through so much and held on to the E30 for so long that it’s tough letting go.

Ive got a E36 M3 convertible, and totally love it. The only reason I ended up with a convertible was because I came across one that had 42k miles and was PRISTINE, as opposed to 95% of the E36s on the market that have been beaten hard.

Besides my Miata, I never considered myself to be a convertible person, but I really enjoy it! There is quite a bit of chassis flex compared to the coupe, so if you’re looking for performance, find a coupe or sedan.
